To Grade Or Not To Grade, That Is The Problem Essays (1786 words)

To Grade or Not to Grade, That is the Problem - What's your GPA (Grade Point Average)? - Have you taken this course previously? What did you get? In his exposition The Farce Called Reviewing, Arthur E. Lean inquiries the utilization of posing to these sorts of inquiries. Evaluations have become some portion of our lives as understudies. Individuals need an evaluating framework and appear to accept it to be essential and characteristic for the procedure of formal education(Lean 131). He alludes to the evaluation as an image indicating to communicate an estimation of scholarly accomplishment an assessment of the quality and amount of learning(Lean 132). There are two principle contentions Lean has proposed. Initially, there is an irregularity from the graders. Second, he considers the to be framework as being out of line and even hurtful for understudies' mentalities toward training. He calls attention to that reviewing framework ought to be wiped out. To reinforcement the way that numerous individuals are testing the need of the reviewing framework, Lean gives two models: A continued exertion ought to be made to toss out bogus affectations to learning. Somehow a large portion of these allude to our fixation on grades?. As a framework for assessing fulfillment of expansive instructive points, it stays a disappointment. Barely any instructors have any efficient thought of how to review reasonably. Reviewing is likewise the main scoundrel behind the outrage of school cheating, said Louis T. Benezet (Lean 130). I have some time in the past arrived at the resolution that the checking framework itself is harming in its effect on the training of our youngsters and youth, and that it ought to go the method of the hickory stick and dullard tops. It ought to be deserted at all degrees of training, said Ernest O. Melby (Lean 130). I concur with Lean somewhat that there are a few irregularities from the graders and maybe some shamefulness happened to numerous understudies. Then again, I don't know that the framework is absolutely destructive for understudies' perspectives toward training. Additionally, given the way that the evaluating framework is an extremely helpful instrument for both propelling and estimating understudies' scholastic capacities, the framework is as yet basic to be kept. There is an irregularity between markers for reviewing research projects or open inquiries that I concur with Lean. On his case of a few instructors denoting a similar paper, constantly the relegated reviews on a similar subject ran all the route from An (amazing) to E (disappointment) (Lean 132). Albeit numerous teachers may state that perspective would not be evaluated while they make an effort not to inclination, there is no assurance that an educator would not give a lower imprint to a paper since s/he may differ with certain pieces of the article. As a previous English class understudy in grade 12, I notice that my educator would in general be prejudicing on non-local English journalists' papers. I said that because since there is a major evaluation distinction if our papers were set apart by another who had not met the essayists previously. A proficient marker who was recruited by the English division evaluated one of our research papers each term. For the most part, the non-local English journalists got essentially better grades than th! ey do when our class educator is checking. The normal differential imprints for non-local English are around ten percent. With respect to local English author, the differential imprints are not without question. The facts confirm that the evaluating framework can barely be completely reasonable. All things considered, most educators attempt to be reasonable and exact in their gauge (Lean 133). One instructor who reviews a work precisely doesn't propose that different educators would do likewise. Anyway Lean cases that all the time they know- - in any event, the individuals who are straightforward with themselves realize that they are endeavoring the unthinkable. No self-regarding instructor ever rests calmly the night subsequent to turning in a lot of evaluations, for he realizes that the framework has made an imposter of him and he hits the hay and despising himself for it (Lean 133). I don't concur with the manner in which Lean is scrutinizing the instructors since their job is to go about as a judge on understudy's work. There is a distinction between being uncalled for and adjusting with the framework. An educator who gives the best reasonable evaluation to a task is as a rule reasonable. What Lean proposes is that instructors don't endeavor to change the evaluating framework. Lean is being out of line to the instructors! along these lines in light of the fact that an instructor's

He wanted to win the confidence of his citizens by delivering a short speech filled with noble ideals (Matheson 11). President Kennedy starts his inaugural address by exclaiming his understanding that America was very different from that of the nation’s predecessors. The President also wanted to send out a warning to all other nations by letting them know that with him as commander-in-chief, America would â€Å"pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend or oppose any foe in order to assure the survival and success of liberty†(Kennedy 609). Basically he was stating that he would not think twice about using all possible forces in order to preserve peace and prosperity for the United States. He further goes on to offer his support to developing countries by pledging to help them help themselves but with a special st ipulation. He warned these nations to not lean on America’s success but to form their own freedom when he stated, â€Å"remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought to find power by riding on the tiger’s back inevitably ended up inside† (Kennedy 609). Titanic Essay Thesis Example For Students

Titanic Essay Thesis TITANICThis paper will be about the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic. Some people call this sinking the greatest maritime disaster. It wasnt just the fact that the ship sank, but also all the different circumstances that caused this ship to sink and take so many lives. In the time period of 1900s-1915s many things happened. One major disaster was the sinking of the Titanic. The information will be gathered from the library, a documentary film, the Internet and personal books. From these resources the paper will explain about how the Titanic sank, some of the people who were on the ship and how it was found after over 70 years at the bottom of the Atlantic. People who read this paper should learn about the history of the Titanic. The Titanic was originally designed to have three funnels, but four were used to make it look better. The fourth funnel was actually just an air vent. The main dining room was supposed to have a large dome but it was changed to a normal ceiling. The staircase was enlarged so it fanned out at the landing of each deck, as well as adding a large glass dome above it. Also, two extra elevators were added making a total of four. She was the most beautiful ship afloat. No ship will ever resemble her class and luxury. (R.M.S Internet)The R.M.S. Titanic was believed to be unsinkable. Bruce Ismay was the White Star Line chairman on the Titanic; he told the captain that the ship was unsinkable because the ship could have any four watertight compartments damaged and still stay afloat. He also believed that anything big enough to sink this ship, could be seen from miles away and be avoided. Mr. Ismay said, Not even god himself could sink this ship. (Titanic Internet)Originally the plan called fo r 64 lifeboats but only 20 lifeboats were used. There were 14 wood lifeboats that could hold 65 people each. Two woodcutters that could hold 40 people each and four collapsible boats that could hold 40 people each. These lifeboats would only be able to hold about half of the passengers in an emergency. ( Internet)Knowing the lifeboats would only be able to hold about half of the passengers, crewmembers still only filled some of the boats with less then 30 people. These boats were half EMPTY; many of the boats were launched this way and caused many more people to lose their lives that night. ( Internet)It was believed that the other 44 lifeboats were taken off to make more room. At that time there was no rule on how many lifeboats were needed on a ship. After the sinking, there were rules made on how many lifeboats a certain ship would have to carry. (Internet)About four years before the Titanic was even a thought, an author wrote about a huge ship, exactly like the Titanic. He wrote that on the ships maiden voyage it struck an iceberg and sank, killing thousands of people. The name of this ship that the author wrote about was called the Titan. Many people think that the Titanic was doomed before it even set sail for New York City. As the Titanic moved through the harbor, a huge displacement of water caused the steamer New York to snap its mooring lines and the New York began to slide towards the Titanic but tugboats moved the ship away before any damage could be done. On the way to Cherbourg, France, there was a fire in boiler room number 5. All these things happened before the ship picked up any passengers. (R.M.S.Internet)There were three classes of people aboard the Titanic. The Upper class, mostly rich, business owners, aboard the ship just to say they were on the maiden voyage. The Middle class, the people who could not afford the Upper class tickets. They were mostly small to medium business owners who were on vacation just to say they were on the Titani c, then there was the Third class passengers. These were immigrants who were coming to America for a better life. These passengers most likely used all the money they had to get a ticket to a better country. These people were treated like nobodies; they were given small rooms, poor food service and were not aloud where the Upper class passengers were. Bruce Imslay said, The richest and most prominent people are on this ship. Because of this attitude, the Third class passengers were not allowed to get into the lifeboats until it was too late and the boats were filled, so most of the Third class passengers died. (Titanic Internet)The Titanic received many ice warnings from several other ships. Believing that the ship was unsinkable, most of the warnings were ignored and many of them did not even make it to the bridge to inform the captain. Thinking the Titanic was unsinkable, Bruce Ismay told Captain Smith to raise the speed of the Titanic so that they could break the record for cross ing the Atlantic. (Internet)The date was April 14,1912. There was no moon, brisk wind, and practically no waves at all. This made it very hard to spot icebergs. Usually you can see the waves hitting the berg but there were no waves. There was no moon to help light the icebergs. In a captain view, it was the worst conditions possible for a ship to be steaming through an ice field. (R.M.S. Internet)It was about 11:30 P.M. when the look out first spotted a dark object in the distance. Realizing it was an iceberg he immediately called the bridge and said, Iceberg right ahead! The Officer in charge tried to turn the ship and slow it down but it was too late. The ship struck the iceberg on the port side. The iceberg made many small punctures in the steel across a large amount of the ship. Contrary to what people thought, the iceberg did not make a gashing hole in the ship, but instead made many small punctures in the steel across a large amount of the ship. (Titanic Internet)When news tra veled about the iceberg, not many people thought anything of it. Most people just continued on as if nothing happened. People did not realize that the ship was going to sink and there was nothing they could do about it. People also did not realize that there were not enough lifeboats for them to get into and that meant death. The water was below freezing; the human body could only stay in this water for about 10 minutes before hypothermia sets in and then death. (Ballard How 710)Thomas Andrews came running to the bridge with the plans to the Titanic. He threw the Titanics plan on the table and told Captain Smith that five watertight compartments have been damaged. Andrews said, She can stay afloat with any four compartments breached, but not five, not five. The Titanic will flounder. (697)How long does she have? asked Captain Smith. An hour, two at most. Responded Thomas Andrews. The Titanic began to sink by the bow. All the water was rushing into the front of the ship and made the stern go in the air. People were falling off the boat, things were breaking and the ship just kept rising, until the pressure was too much and the ship finally broke into two. The bow sank slowly into the Atlantic Ocean and disappeared. The stern settled back into the water and for a few minutes floated, until it also began to sink. It a few minutes the stern of the Titanic was vertical with the water. Then as the air slowly escaped from the hull and it slide into the ocean and rested more them 12,500 feet below sea level in the Atlantic Ocean. (Ballard Long 712)In 1985, a joint French-American expedition under Dr. Robert Ballard found the wreck of the Titanic. After over 73 years lying at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, Robert Ballard was the first person to see the R.M.S. Titanic since the doomed night in April 1912. He had these comments on his first look at this ship. I cannot believe my eyes. From the abyss two and a half miles beneath the sea, the bow of a great vessel emerg es in ghostly detail. It was my lifelong dream to find the Titanic. But I must admit, I am a bit sad we found her. We now know her true fate and it is now a petty one. She is no longer the beautiful lady she once was. ( 702)Some of the major reasons that Titanic sank were the mistakes that people made, bad luck, and the steel. Robert Ballard notes, The steel was too brittle and shattered on impact. To make todays steel this brittle the water temperature would have to be -60 degrees to -70 degrees. If there were enough lifeboats, less people would have died, the ship would have still sank but far less lives would have been lost. If the steel was not so brittle and bend instead of fracturing, it could have stayed afloat. If the conditions werent how they were, then they could have seen the iceberg earlier and avoided it. There are a lot of ifs in this story of the Titanic. Maybe if just one factor had gone differently this could have been avoided. If they had taken the ice warnings an d slowed down or if instead of avoiding the iceberg altogether, if the captain had thought about it, he would had realized that she could have hit the berg straight on, broken maybe one or two compartments, but she still would have been able to crawl back to port. So many things could have prevented this horrible disaster but they didnt and we should remember the people who lost their lives that fateful night in April. (Ballard How 699)The Titanic is a final resting place for thousands of souls. Some people think that they should raise the Titanic so that they could explore it and study it. I think they should leave it where it is, out of respect at least. People lost their lives on this ship and deserve a place to spend their time. Not only will they disrespect the dead, but also by raising the ship, they will disrupt everything. Once the steel hits the oxygen, it will begin to corrode. After awhile, there will be no Titanic left at all and just so they could study it. The Titanic surely should never be raised, it is a cemetery to all those who lost their lives that nite.(Ballard Long 708)WORKS CITEDBallard, Robert D. How We Found Titanic. Blessing free essay sample

Blessing is a poem by Imtiaz Dharker and is set in a village in Pakistan. This is a descriptive poem, which uses imagery to illustrate sights and sounds, and creates an atmosphere of frantic joy. The poem also consists of some inconsistent usage of end-rhyme, followed by some usage of metaphors, personification, simile, assonance and alliteration. The poet uses free verse in this poem to emphasize what the poem is about and to make the reader think about the situation and to think about the words used. It has no fixed metrical pattern. The poem begins with a simile ‘The skin cracks like a pod’ this line immediately give the reader an impression of drought and a shortage of water. The usage of the word ‘skin’ could be a literal reference to a person’s skin that had become chapped by constant exposure to the sun or it could be a more figurative reference to the dry, dusty ground that cracks and splits during heat waves and droughts. We will write a custom essay sample on Blessing or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The word ‘pod’ can refer to a seed pod that opens in the hot weather to release it seeds. The poet uses words that remind the reader that what we are dealing with is a hot country where thirst is common and where after all, ‘there never is enough water. ’ By the words of the first two-lined stanza we are in no doubt to the fact that the villagers here are desperate for water and how much of an amazing and special thing it is for them. The poet involves the reader by asking us to ‘imagine the drip of it’, which is telling us how small the quantity is and to imagine the tiny splash as the water droplet hits the bottom of the cup. It seems as though the person describing the dripping water hasn’t had a drink in a very long time and is fantasizing about that special and delicious drop of water. The fact that the tiny droplet of water creates an ‘echo’ in the mug suggests that the tin mug is almost empty and is like a drop of water hitting a parched tongue. It also makes you think, what kind of person would own a tin mug? Would it be a rich person or a poor person? The reference of a tin mug may imply that the person who owns a tin mug must be poor and not very fortunate. The last line of the second stanza has a religious reference. It personifies the echoing splash of the water as the ‘voice of a kindly god. ’ God is seen as the provider of water and every drop received is a kind of gesture and therefore it is something miraculous and deeply special. The third stanza is the longest one of the poem. It tells us a story of a burst water pipe and how suddenly this ordinary small pipe is transformed into a powerful overflow of water. Water has so much importance and value to these people that throughout the poem it is referred to as if it was a precious metal like gold or silver. The municipal pipe bursts’ tells us the burst of this public (municipal) pipe is an amazing and incidental occasion. It is described by the metaphor ‘the sudden rush of fortune’, like somebody winning the jackpot and the money is rushing out of the machine. As the precious water splashes onto the ground the word ‘rush’ could mean that people are ‘rushing’ around trying to save as m uch water as they possibly can, as it is precious. This same idea is echoed in another metaphor ‘silver crashes to the ground. ’ When caught in the right light water can look like silver or a high polished mirror. The poet may have used the word ‘silver’ to emphasise how precious it is. Line ten flows to line eleven, and the water is described as a ‘flow’ that gives rise to a sudden burst of noise from the villagers, ‘a roar of tongues’. The word ‘roar’ could refer to a group of people since we only have one tongue each and therefore the plural ‘tongues’ suggest a group. The tongues could be roaring with thirst or maybe they are shouting and their combined voices becomes a ‘roar. ’ In this same stanza, the use of the word ‘congregation’ may have two important meanings to the context of the poem. Firstly it may refer to a congregation or group of people, but it also may refer to a group of people in church or being given a religious instruction. We see that the poet uses religious language, the affect being to make the process of saving the spilling water a kind of religious ritual. The poet has already described the water as a gift from a kindly god, so it is only right that collecting it should have some resemblance to a religious ritual. Pakistan is a place where many of them are very religious and have many ways of worship. The men, woman and children are all eager for their share of the spilled water and come with any container that they are first able to see. The stanza concludes with the phrase ‘frantic hands’, which once again emphasizes the desperation that leads the villagers to take even handfuls of water. The poet uses enjambment to link the third stanza to the fourth and final one. This focuses on the children of the village, where the children are described as naked and delighted of the chance to bathe in the water. ‘Screaming in the liquid sun’ is a metaphor that aligns the water to the sun to emphasise the pleasure and warmth of the experience. It shows that all is not doom and gloom since the small children are playing in the water. Alliteration is also used in the phrases ‘polished to perfection’ and ‘the blessing sings’, they combine alliteration and assonance, which creates vivid imagery to portray the excitement of the occasion. The word blessing continues the religious theme which has been running through the poem. The final line flows from the previous one ‘sings/over their small bones. ’ It is a gentle ending, focusing on the children of the village who are in great need of this water.

World Bank IMF essays

World Bank IMF essays Debt repayments divert money away from basic life-saving health care in the world's poorest countries. The UN estimates that if funds were diverted back into health and education from debt repayment, the lives of seven million children a year could be saved. That is 134,000 children a week. In todays global village one cannot ignore the other eighty percent of the world that lives in poverty. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are two organizations that have been put in place to help third world countries get out of debt, but instead have further hurt the country. The World Bank and IMF instead of helping developing nations have been helping their contributors. The organizations have damaged a nations economy, privatized many government run programs, reduced funding to social programs and have put in place many harmful Structural Adjustment Plans (SAPs). The World Bank and The IMF have also contributed to the destruction of the environment in developing na tions. They introduced harmful chemicals that are used to get larger yields in crops, have forced countries to produce cash crops to repay debts, have funded large dams that disrupt life, and encouraged the use of fossil fuel. The World Bank and the IMF have a negative impact on both the development and the environment of the nations that they are allegedly trying to give aid to. The World Bank was formed in 1944 and is made up of five closely related branches. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The IBRD provides loans and advice on development to middle income countries and creditworthy poorer countries. IBRD sells bonds to richer countries to help provide money for the country in need. The International Development Association (IDA) is part of the Banks poverty reduction mission. It focuses in on poorer countries of the world. COMPUTING NETWORK MANAGEMENT Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

COMPUTING NETWORK MANAGEMENT - Essay Example The company has multiple sites that need to be interconnected and all the sites are located in neighbouring areas. The proposed LAN for Transcom Tax Analysis Ltd is the Token Ring LAN. The ring shaped network basically uses baseband transmission with the token access method. The bus usually consists of screened four core cable and the equipment is connected via MAUs. Up to eight PCs can be connected to one MAU (Atkins and Norris, 1995). A total of 260 MAUs can be included in one ring. Several rings can be connected together by means of a bridge. The topology can be a combination of start and rings (Atkins and Norris, 1995). All the MAUs lie on the ring while the computers are connected in a star to the MAU. A special bypass device in the MAU senses which of the computers are not in use and cuts them out of the ring (Leinwand, 1995). Other connections in the MAU are included in the ring. The network follows the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standard 802.2 for link protocol and 802.5 for connection to the medium (Atkins and Norris, 1995). The normal transmission rate is 4 Mbits/s, but speed of up to 16 Mbits/s is possible. By analysing the company needs and requirements, it is clear that the company is in need of a Token Ring LAN that is designed in association with one or multiple MAUs. One MAU is enough for smaller locations but for larger locations, more than one MAU should be employed (Pountain, 2001). As the company’s working procedures are well spread, they are in need of more than one MAUs, which will be connected together developing one MAU as the central authority. The Token Ring Topology is considered more reliable and secure due to which, the company’s security issue will be resolved. Moreover, the Token Ring Topology is the best choice for those networking environments that have heavy workload. UTP cable is more sensitive to EMI

Terrorism and Homeland Security Essay Example for Free

Terrorism and Homeland Security Essay Left-wing extremists are highly idealistic. Their primary objective is to reform or destroy an existing system and replace it with a new and just society. Left-wing extremists possess a belief system that is often interpreted as a fanatical devotion to Marxist ideology. As a result, they use the doctrines of class warfare or national liberation as a justification for political violence. For left-wing extremists, taking up arms is a form of struggle against a despotic system, class or government. In addition, they view themselves as the messianic saviors of the poor and the oppressed. Studies of Marxist movements in the 21st century has revealed that in order to bring about their desired social change, left-wing extremists adopt a â€Å"vanguard strategy† (p. 223). This approach operates on the premise that revolutionary conditions are the results of a generalized climate of change that was developed over time. Revolutionary conditions rarely occur spontaneously – only a committed and disciplined revolutionary movement has the capacity to come up with it. The revolutionary movement (usually composed of disaffected young educated elite) creates revolutionary conditions by raising the political consciousness of the exploited class or group. In the context of leftist extremism, â€Å"political consciousness† refers to the belief that revolution is the best alternative to the corrupt status quo. As soon as the desired revolutionary conditions are attained, the revolutionary movement sees to it that these are maintained. In the process, the revolutionary movement becomes the â€Å"vanguard† of the subjugated class or group. The former â€Å"saves† them from a repressive system, as well as â€Å"protects† them from it. An example that illustrates the â€Å"vanguard strategy† is the Russian Vanguard of the Proletariat. Lenin and the Bolsheviks required the members of the Russian Communist Party to be the â€Å"vanguard of the proletariat† (p. 234). They were the â€Å"elite† who were expected to transform Russia into a Communist society by bringing about the revolution. They were to free the proletariat from the tyranny of the nobles by educating them on Marxist doctrines. Right-wing extremists, on the other hand, are very nostalgic. They affirm their superiority usually by looking back on past glories. In the process, right-wing extremists use these previous achievements as justifications for violence. For them, carnage is acceptable as long as it is used to maintain the purity of a religion, ethno-national group or an ideology. Right-wing extremists believe that they have the moral obligation to protect an ideal order that was â€Å"violated† or â€Å"destroyed† by â€Å"inferior† religious values or ethno-national interests. For them, the restoration of this ideal order is the only way to lasting peace and prosperity in society. Anyone who opposes must be eliminated through all possible means – even violence. Consequently, right-wing extremism is very prevalent in organizations that represent groups that have a distinctive identity, such as regional minorities and religious fundamentalists. Below are the common characteristics of right-wing organizations: a. Nationalism – The belief that only people of a specific nationality have the right to reside within a given country. Furthermore, these nationals likewise have the right to live in their country’s borders. b. Racism – The misconception that race is the main basis for all human traits and capabilities. c. Xenophobia – In the context of right-wing extremism, xenophobia is the fear of belief systems that deviate from the status quo. d. Antidemocracy – An aversion to the concept of pluralism in society. In order to achieve their goal homogeneity, right-wing extremists shun political activities that foster equality and democratic rule, such as popular elections. e. Strong State – Right-wing extremists advocate militarism under the guise of â€Å"protecting law and order. † For them, militarism is an effective means of eliminating â€Å"dissidents† (groups whom they deem â€Å"inferior†). Modernization of Health Practices in East Central :: essays research papers

The colonization of the western world brought on many changes for the indigenous people of Africa in every way of life. The Christian missionaries accomplished much more than just introducing their religion. They also exposed and converted Africans to western values and social beliefs. Health care practices were one of the things greatly influenced by the colonization. In my paper, I am focusing on the practices of the east central region of Africa, including the regions of Nigeria and (???). This region has common Bantu-speaking ancestors and commonalties among medicines and practices. The impact of the western world is easily recognizable because of the radical differences in thought between the Europeans and the Africans. At the time of colonization, European health care centered around science and reason. Most Africans, on the other hand, believed in more abstract, spiritual explanations for disease and illness. Religious practitioners had a big part in the healing process. The infiltration of western ideas sparked obvious changes and many times produced a combination of traditional healing along with western ideas. There were changes in health care practices even before the time of colonization and I will also give a brief history of this change to emphasize the fact that religion and practices are never stagnant. Brief history of people in East Central region African healing practices traditionally have strong ties with religion. They place an emphasis on holistic healing and believe in a mind-body connection. Divination is one technique that is often used to find the cause of a particular illness. "Since all human problems such as infertility, illness, and trouble in hunting, are ascribed to moral conflicts within the human community, the diviner's task is to disclose acts of immorality which have provoked the vengeance of the ancestors, and to reveal the destructive hand of witches and sorcerers." (Ray, 104). A diviner searches a person's past to find something that may be ascribed to the works of an outside source. They want to find the source of the problem before simply treating the symptoms. They also believe that once the source is found, a ceremony can be performed that may lead to the reversal of its effect. There is a strong belief that the cause of illness is in the mind, so when the treatment is foscused there, improvement in physical ailments may be seen. "Because illness and death are seen to be rooted in immoral acts, the diviner's role

From the fifth century AD Confucian orthodoxy retreated before the popularity of Buddhism and Daoism. But a renaissance came during the Song dynasty when Confucianism responded to the challenge and developed its own metaphysics. This new trend is known as Neo-confucianism, and its main exponent was Zhu Xi (1130-1200). It subsequently became the main orthodoxy of the scholar official s until the demise of the imperial system in 1912. 9.Because of the remarkable durability of Chinese civilization as well as its marvelous technological and economic innovations, other cultures began to imitate China. Japan, Korea, and Vietnam were all drawn into China's cultural and political orbit in the post classical period. Each country interacted with China differently 10. How Language Develops Within Individuals - 2333 Words

The main focus of this essay will be on how language develops within individuals. It will explore theories put forward by different linguists such as Skinner, and Chomsky. Different theories put forward by these two linguists will be analysed in detail such as, ‘behaviourism, ‘operant conditioning’ and ‘language acquisition theory.’ The essay will then move on to explore two disorders of language, (Down syndrome (DS) and Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)) by analysing previous research, and the different theories put forward by different linguists of how these disorders can effect language development within different individuals. Throughout the essay, attention will be given to the extent to which this can inform our understanding of how language typically develops, and this will also be discussed. ‘Interest in this cognitive domain stems from the fact that language is one of the most prominent markers of intellectual impairment, which affects development in many ways (e.g., academically, socially, personally).’ (Ypilsanti and Grouios 2008). In the 1950’s, Skinner put forward his theory about language and how it develops in children. His theory suggested that we as humans behave in the way we do due to consequences that we have experienced in the past through other people behaving or saying certain things. Skinner’s theory suggested that children grow to develop their language due to environmental cues around them, such as people talking around them, and giving them cues onShow MoreRelatedLanguage Between Language And Language1680 Words   |  7 PagesLanguage arose out of a need to communicate ideas and commands.
